Jebreh Harris is beginning his third season as a volunteer coach for track and field. He also ably serves the cross country squad in the same role during the fall.
After transferring to Tennessee from Alabama State, Harris enjoyed his NCAA experiences during his collegiate career, as well. Harris, an 800 specialist who stands sixth on Tennessee's all-time list in the event, earned two All-America honors as a collegian. Harris took the third leg on Tennessee's All-America effort in the distance medley relay in 2000. Harris played a crucial role in securing Tennessee's winning point in a 50-49 win at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Championships, leading off the Vols All-America 4x400 relay team to cap the meet and seal the team victory. In his last season as a Vol, Harris was part of one of Tennessee's finest teams as the squad secured the 2001 SEC and NCAA outdoor crowns.
His experiences helped him team up with Tennessee assistant head coach George Watts in coaching Tennessee s distance medley relay team that won the conference title last year and one week later broke Tennessee's school record in the event. Outdoors, Harris helped Yarrick Kincaid earn his the first All-America certificate of his career in the 800.
The Decatur, Ga., native earned his bachelor s degree from Tennessee in 2002, majoring in graphic design. He works as an artist in addition to competing professionally in the 800. Sponsored byReebok, Harris competes internationally and is coached Watts.
Harris ran the first leg of the 4x800 relay for USA Aug. 25, 2006 as the team broke the American record at the Van Damme Memorial in Bruxelles, Belgium. He finished sixth in the 800 at the 2004 U.S. Olympic trials and third in the 800 at the 2006 USA Outdoor Championships. At the end of the 2006 season, Harris was ranked second in the U.S. in his specialty by Track & Field News.
Harris has assisted with the Knoxville Track Club for four summers, tutoring middle distance runners. He is a certified USA Track and Field Level One coach.
